Laura Dowsett is a Research Fellow at the British Heart Foundation Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre. She graduated from the University of Manchester with a BSc in Pharmacology and Physiology with Industrial Experience in the Drug Metabolism Group at Sanofi Aventis. She completed her PhD at the MRC Clinical Science Centre at Imperial College London under the supervision of Dr. James Leiper. Her research focused on understanding the role of Dimethylarginine Dimethylaminohydrolase (DDAH) enzymes as cardiovascular risk factors along with adipocyte and endothelial cell models of diet-induced obesity. After her doctoral studies, Laura worked at UCL's Institute of Ophthalmology, exploring endothelial cell signaling and models of angiogenesis in retinal diseases and cancer progression. In 2017, she rejoined the Leiper Lab at the University of Glasgow and has been expanding her work on the interaction between ADMA and the Calcium Sensing Receptor. Currently, she is developing her research group with continuing interests in the Calcium Sensing Receptor and cardiometabolic disease, and her research interests include adipose-vascular crosstalk, endothelial cell heterogeneity, and obesity and diabetes models.
