Biography

Laura Gagliardi is the Richard Kathy Leventhal Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and the James Franck Institute at the University of Chicago. She directs the Catalyst Design Decarbonization Center (CD4DC), an Energy Frontier Research Center funded by the United States Department of Energy. Beginning her academic career at the University of Palermo in 2002, she progressed to the University of Geneva in 2005 as an associate professor, later becoming a professor of chemistry at the University of Minnesota in 2009. Gagliardi has held prestigious titles such as the Distinguished McKnight University Professor and has received several significant awards, including the Pauling Medal Award and the Peter Debye Award from the American Chemical Society. She is a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and has served as an associate editor for the Journal of Chemical Theory and Computation. Her research focuses on developing novel wave function-based quantum chemical methods and applying them to problems related to renewable energies, catalysis, and molecular systems, particularly in carbon dioxide separations and photochemical processes.
