Laura C. Harrington is the Michael J. Turell Professor in the Department of Entomology at Cornell University. She earned her PhD in Entomology from the University of Massachusetts in 1999 and completed her postdoctoral training at the University of California, Davis. Her research is centered on global health issues related to vector-borne diseases. Living and working in rural Thailand, she contracted dengue and malaria, which greatly influenced her focus on the biology, ecology, and behavior of mosquitoes that transmit human diseases. Professor Harrington's current research projects explore blood feeding and mating behavior of mosquito vectors associated with diseases such as dengue fever, Zika, and West Nile virus. In addition to her research, she engages in extension outreach within New York and the Northeastern United States and has held director positions at various regional centers focused on vector-borne diseases. Over her career, she has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and has contributed to scientific book chapters, addressing critical questions in vector biology and control.
