Biography

Laura Kipnis is a cultural theorist, critic, and video artist known for her work that explores the intersections of American politics, psyche, and body, with themes including love, Marx, gender, distress, adultery, scandal, and Freud. She has authored six books, and her essays and reviews have been published in prominent outlets such as Slate, The Nation, Critical Inquiry, Social Text, Wide Angle, Village Voice, Harper's, and New York Magazine, along with numerous edited collections. Her video essays have been screened and broadcast across North America and internationally in venues such as the Museum of Modern Art, American Film Institute, and Whitney Museum. Kipnis is also a writer, director, and producer of various films, including "Marx: Video" and "Ecstasy Unlimited: Interpenetrations of Sex and Capital." Her book "Unwanted Advances: Sexual Paranoia Comes to Campus" was published in April 2017.
