Dr. Laura Lonsdale

Biography

Laura Lonsdale is an Associate Professor of Modern Spanish Literature at Queen’s College, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on translation and literary multilingualism within the Spanish-speaking world, with longstanding interests in women’s writing and Spanish theatre. She teaches modern literature from Spain, spanning the nineteenth century to the present day. Lonsdale supervises PhD candidates, including those exploring translingualism in post-censorship literatures and translation authority in modern Hispanophone literature. Her selected publications include 'Multilingualism and Modernity: Barbarisms in Spanish American Literature' and various articles in notable journals. She has presented keynotes on topics relating to travel, translation, and poetry at numerous conferences, shaping a significant academic dialogue around multilingual narratives and cultural intersections in the Spanish-speaking world. Lonsdale continues to engage with graduate students and faculty in multidisciplinary discussions, promoting innovative approaches to literature and translation studies.
