Dr. Laura Lowery

Biography

Laura Lowery is an Associate Professor at Boston University in the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. She discovered her passion for academia and biomedical research while studying at the University of California, San Diego, where she focused on neural circuitry. She earned her PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, concentrating on early brain development. Following her post-doctoral research at Harvard Medical School, where she explored neuronal growth cone and axon guidance, she began her faculty career at Boston College before moving to Boston University Medical Center. Lowery leads a multifaceted research program aimed at understanding the cytoskeletal dynamics that drive cell motility in both normal and pathological conditions, using the Xenopus laevis model system. She has received numerous grants from institutions such as the NIH and NSF, and has mentored a variety of students through her lab, emphasizing collaboration and support. Lowery is also actively involved in promoting diversity in science and mentoring women in academia.
