Laura Magri graduated in Architecture from the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio and the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona. She earned her PhD in Conservation of Architectural Heritage from the Politecnico di Milano with a dissertation titled 'Industrialized Residential Architectures Half 20th Century (1945–1991): Perspectives on Conservation and Energy Improvement.' Currently, she chairs Sustainable Design at USI-ARC and is involved in reuse and conservation projects in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia. As a post-doctoral researcher, she is working on the project 'From 'Baukultur' to 'Umbaukultur': Culture of Demolition and Replacement vs. Culture of Care and Repair,' funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The research aims to identify unconscious cultural behavioral programs that hinder the successful implementation of conversion projects, exploring the roots of the prevailing throwaway culture, its economic fundamentals, legal frameworks, and standards, as well as evaluating the serious negative environmental consequences of this unsustainable culture. Laura seeks to understand the consistent failures in addressing these issues and aims to establish an alternative attitude of care and repair within the building sector.
