Biography

Laura Manenti is an experimental particle physicist who completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Università degli Studi di Milano, followed by a PhD at University College London (UCL). Her postdoctoral research included work at CERN, focusing on liquid argon cryostats. From 2018 to 2024, she was a researcher at New York University Abu Dhabi, where she worked on projects involving dark matter detectors and quantum sensors. In 2024, she joined the University of Sydney as a lecturer. Manenti is passionate about teaching and incorporates experimental demonstrations into her lectures to enhance student engagement. Her current research includes projects on cosmic ray interference in quantum computers and mapping urban radioactivity to inform public health. Additionally, she is exploring phenomena related to dark matter and developing new detection methods. Manenti has collaborated internationally, including with Italy’s National Metrology Institute and Rigetti Computing, and has received grants for her innovative research. She is also an advocate for science communication, having co-authored a children's book on particle physics aimed at young readers, which has been recognized by the Italian Physics Society.
