Laura Righetti is an Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry at Wageningen University & Research. She joined the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry at Wageningen Food Safety Research in 2022 after receiving the WGS Postdoc Talent Programme award. Laura completed her MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry Technology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, followed by a PhD in Food Chemistry at the University of Parma focusing on the applicability of advanced analytical chemistry tools for assessing the quality, authenticity, and safety of wheat. Her work in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics began during her Master’s thesis at the Centre for Metabolomics & Bioanalysis in Madrid, which included a significant research period at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague under Professor Jana Hajsolva. Her postdoctoral research at the University of Parma involved developing high-resolution mass spectrometry methods to elucidate the biotransformation of natural toxins. Laura led a project funded by DAAD at Justus Liebig University in Giessen, where she focused on the spatial compartmentalization of mycotoxins in plants using imaging mass spectrometry. She is actively engaged with the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI Europe), advising on emerging scientific issues.
