Biography

Laura Rossi works at the interface of chemistry and physics engineering design, focusing on the development of novel techniques for the preparation of colloids with unusual functionalities, emphasizing magnetic colloids. Her goal is to gain a fundamental understanding of the in- and out-of-equilibrium assembly of colloidal particles and use this knowledge to prepare new materials with specific mechanical, optical, and therapeutic properties. Laura obtained her Bachelor in Chemistry from the University of Pavia (Italy) in 2005 and moved to Utrecht University where she obtained her Master in Chemistry and Physics in 2012 and her PhD in Physical Chemistry. In 2013, she joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles as a postdoc. In 2015, she returned to the Netherlands to the University of Amsterdam with a Veni grant. In 2018, she became an assistant professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at TU Delft, leading the group on Colloidal Engineering Materials Design.
