Biography

Laura Schellhardt is a playwright and adaptor whose original works include titles such as Upright Grand, Air Guitar High, and Auctioning Ainsleys, which received a Jeff Award nomination. Other notable works include Apothecary's Daughter, Remove Blood Carpet, K D— which was a Jeff Award Nominee and won a New Play Award at the 2010 NYC Fringe Festival— Courting Vampires, Shapeshifter, Inheritance, and Je Ne Sais Quoi. She has adapted works including Phantom Tollbooth, Mysteries of Harris Burdick, and Creole Folktales, alongside writing Screenwriting Dummies. Schellhardt is a recipient of several prestigious awards and fellowships, including the TCG National Playwriting Residency, Jerome Fellowship, and New Play Award from ACT Seattle, and has participated in various notable festivals and initiatives such as the SoHo Rep Writer/Director Lab and the Kennedy Center's New Voices/New Visions Festival. She has obtained her MFA in Playwriting from Brown University and a BA from Northwestern University, where she currently oversees the undergraduate playwriting initiative in the Department of Theatre.
