Dr. Laura Scholtz

Biography

Laura Scholtz is a Neuro-Critical Care physician at NYU Langone Health, dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients experiencing critical neurological conditions. Her approach emphasizes individualized treatment plans, fostering strong relationships with patients and their families. Dr. Scholtz believes the intensive care unit (ICU) is a crucial step in the long healthcare journey, aiming to ensure the highest quality care during critical times. She specializes in treating critically ill patients due to stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, seizures, and neuromuscular diseases. With expertise in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), she enhances diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficacy in the Neuro ICU. Her career is marked by interdisciplinary collaboration, working closely with various healthcare providers, and serving as the medical director of the Neuro ICU at Bellevue Hospital. She is also committed to education and training, holding the role of editor for the POCUS section of Currents and acting as an ad hoc reviewer for peer-reviewed journals. Driven by a passion for neuroscience, Dr. Scholtz pursued her medical education at Temple University and completed her residency at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, followed by a fellowship at New York Presbyterian - Columbia University.
