Dr. Laura Sjoberg

Biography

Laura Sjoberg is a Professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford and an Official Fellow in Politics and International Relations at Exeter College. Her research addresses issues of gender and security, with a focus on politically violent women, feminist war theorizing, and sexuality in global politics. Additionally, she navigates topics related to political methodology. Sjoberg teaches, consults, and lectures on gender, global politics, and international security. Her work has been published in over fifty books and journals across political science, law, gender studies, international relations, and geography. Notable recent publications include Women Wartime Rapists (New York University Press, 2016), Interpretive Quantification (University of Michigan Press, 2017), and the Routledge Handbook on Gender and Security (2018). In her recent articles, she examines failures in critical security studies, characterizations of women in the Islamic State, feminist contributions to Security Studies, and gendered insecurity issues. Sjoberg also instructs on subjects including international law, gender and armed conflict, international relations theorizing, and international security.
