Biography

Laura St. John is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary, specializing in Exercise Health Research focusing on neurodiverse women and girls. Her research takes a biopsychosocial lens to examine the relationship between physical activity and the health and well-being of women and girls with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She is particularly interested in understanding how physical activity and health can fluctuate during menstruation and menopause in this population. Prior to joining the faculty, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and completed her PhD in Exercise Science at the University of Toronto. Besides her academic work, Laura is actively involved in coaching, specifically as an indoor beach volleyball coach for Special Olympics, and is dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of individuals with neurodevelopmental conditions through research, community engagement, and advocacy.
