Dr. Laura Wilber

Biography

Laura Ann Wilber is a Professor Emerita at Northwestern University specializing in audiology and hearing sciences within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Her primary research interest is noise, and she has been actively involved in assisting audiology students with their capstone projects focused on the effects of noise. A clinical audiologist by profession, Wilber has extensive experience in the assessment of hearing and amplification devices, and she has contributed to the establishment of standards for audiometric testing procedures. She has served as a representative for the United States in the International Standards Organization for over twenty years. Wilber has published numerous articles in professional journals, including the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America and the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, and is also the author of chapters on audiologic testing and calibration equipment. Her leadership roles include serving as the president of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology, and the American Auditory Society, as well as being a founding member of the American Academy of Audiology. She is a certified audiologist and licensed hearing-aid dispenser, with a strong focus on addressing the impact of noise on individuals.
