Dr. Laura Winter

Biography

Laura Winter is a Reader in Counselling Psychology at the University of Manchester's Manchester Institute of Education. She is a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Laura has a significant background in educational psychology, focusing on the interplay of social and political issues and the well-being of students in educational contexts. She has edited influential works, including multiple editions of 'The Sage Handbook of Counselling and Psychotherapy' and the 'Handbook of Social Justice in Psychological Therapies'. As an active member of the Counselling Psychology profession, she has held various leadership positions including Deputy Chair of the British Psychological Society's Training Committee for Counselling Psychology. Laura has engaged in research linked to issues of power, inequality, and activism, as well as the impact of welfare changes on emotional well-being. Her teaching primarily revolves around the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, and she has contributed significantly to the discourse around social justice in psychological practice. Laura is also involved in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on how her work contributes to these global objectives.
