Biography

Laura Wise is a Senior Research Fellow and Programme Coordinator at the Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform (PeaceRep), where her research focuses on the intersections of peace processes in conflict-affected societies and the politics of inclusion. She is particularly interested in local peace processes, ethnopolitics, and the role of women in peace and security. As a part of the PeaceRep consortium, Laura leads research projects investigating local peace processes in fragmented conflicts and the role of gender and ethnic minorities in the implementation of peace agreements. Her work, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), aims to inform United Nations policies on gender and peace processes. Laura has contributed to the PA-X Peace Agreements Database and co-developed the PeaceFem mobile application, which illustrates women's inclusion in peace processes worldwide. Her previous roles include working with UN Women to enhance women's leadership in sustainable peace in fragile contexts across the MENA region. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she led research exploring PeaceTech methods to understand ceasefires, resulting in the creation of an interactive tracker of ceasefires during Covid-19. Laura holds a BSc in Economics and International Politics from Aberystwyth University and an MA in Comparative Ethnic Conflict from Queen's University Belfast. She received the RSE Mary Somerville Medal in 2023 for her exceptional achievements in research and collaboration.
