Professor Dr. Laura Wohlgemuth

Biography

Laura Wohlgemuth is a doctoral researcher in the Department of English at the University of Bern. Her work is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and focuses on the intersection of sociolinguistics and discard studies. Laura is currently involved in a project titled 'Articulating Rubbish', where she explores the relationship between language and the concept of 'crisis waste.' Her research critically examines how language shapes our understanding of material consumption, value negotiation, and waste management in domestic interactions. Laura's expertise lies in sociocultural linguistics and discourse analysis, and she employs various methodological approaches, including (mediated) discourse analysis of both spoken and written language.
