Dr. Laure Miolo

Biography

Laure Miolo is an Associate Professor specializing in Medieval Latin Manuscript Studies at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on late medieval Europe, particularly on manuscript studies and the history of early libraries. With a keen interest in the history of science and scholarly practices from the thirteenth to the fifteenth centuries, Miolo investigates the production, circulation, and use of manuscripts. Her work critically examines the role of scientific books and the practices surrounding their creation and use, combining methods from paleography and the history of book history with a focus on scientific disciplines such as mathematics and astronomy. Miolo has held several prestigious research fellowships, including the Lyell Career Development Fellowship in Latin Palaeography and the Dilts Research Fellowship at Lincoln College, Oxford. In addition to her scholarship, she teaches courses in Latin, French paleography, and codicology. Miolo’s publications include collective works that explore the intersection of manuscripts with religious, artistic, and scientific performances. She actively engages in researching the formation of private libraries and the development of cursive scripts in the context of medieval universities.
