Biography

Laureen Zubiaurre Bitzer received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University College of Dental Medicine and completed a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Castle Point, NY. She also holds a Master’s degree and a PhD from Teachers College, Columbia University. With over 30 years of experience in Academic Dentistry, she holds appointments as Associate Professor at the College of Dental Medicine, Columbia University Medical Center, and Instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Zubiaurre’s academic focus is on Preclinical Simulation and Professional Licensure Exam Review, and she serves as co-director of the MA Science in Dental Education Dual Degree program at Teachers College. Since joining the faculty in 1989, she has held various roles, including Senior Associate Dean of Admissions and Career Planning and Director of the Advanced Standing Program. An active member of the American Dental Education Association, she chairs the ADEA Section on Education, Research, and Curriculum Development. Her scholarly interests encompass the use of reflection, predictors of success in dental school, readiness for practice, and assessments that affect performance on high-stakes exams.
