Biography

Lauren Black is a Teaching Assistant in the School of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Glasgow. She graduated with an MSci(Hons) in Veterinary Biosciences from the University of Glasgow in 2018. Her academic work focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, including the pathology associated with canine degenerative myelopathy and its genetic and clinical similarities to familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in humans. She utilizes various biochemical and molecular techniques in her research, including investigating superoxide dismutase 1 misfolding using in vitro models. Lauren has also worked with the Moredun Research Institute, investigating the pathology caused by Toxoplasma gondii and studying zoonotic bacteria from cloacal samples of wild birds. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Glasgow and has been involved in teaching and mentoring MSci students. She has received several awards, including the Student Partnership Impact Award from the Staff Educational Development Association in 2024 and has presented her research at various international conferences.
