Biography

Lauren Cruikshank teaches a range of courses in media studies, digital culture, game studies, popular culture, cultural studies, and gender studies at the University of New Brunswick. With over a decade of experience, her research focuses on the evolving disciplines of New Media Studies and Game Studies. She has shared her work on avatars, embodiment, and gender in games through various publications and presentations at local, national, and international conferences, including being one of the six speakers chosen for New Brunswick’s TEDx event in 2012. Her recent research has examined the representations of reproduction and birth in digital games and virtual worlds. Additionally, Dr. Cruikshank has developed several research projects and new course offerings to advance the academic study of digital games locally. She is also the founder and director of the Games Culture Research Group at UNB.
