Dr. Lauren Fahy

Biography

Lauren Fahy is an Assistant Professor at the Utrecht School of Governance, specializing in regulatory governance, compliance, and the reputation of regulators, particularly in the context of emerging technologies. She has a background as a civil servant and policy advisor, having worked for six years in the Australian national government focusing on climate policy legislation and stakeholder management. She moved to the Netherlands to pursue her PhD, part of an ERC project on Successful Public Governance, where she conducted research on the functioning of regulatory agencies in complex and uncertain environments involving innovation. Following her PhD, she engaged in post-doctoral research as part of an NWO project titled 'Toezicht met Gezag' ('Authoritative Reputations of Regulators in Turbulent Times'), which investigates how the reputations of regulators are formed and their influence on compliance. With eight years of research and professional experience, Lauren has developed significant expertise in practice-oriented research and the connections between stakeholders' perceptions of regulators and their motivations to comply and cooperate. In addition to her academic pursuits, she is actively involved in professional education and consulting, delivering courses and presentations and providing tailored advice to organizations such as the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) and the Netherlands Authority for Financial Markets (AFM).
