Biography

Lauren Gorfinkel is a Senior Lecturer in Media Communication at Macquarie University, where she coordinates the Public Relations major and convenes the Media-Communication Strategies Campaigns unit. With over a decade of experience in teaching Public Relations and Media Communication, she has developed significant collaborations with not-for-profit organizations, government agencies, and corporate partners. Her research interests focus on health science communication, particularly in relation to nutrition and public health strategies. Gorfinkel is actively involved in projects designed to enhance the public's understanding of bioactives, aiming to encourage healthier eating habits. She also examines media representations of RNA technologies and COVID-19, emphasizing the importance of effective public engagement and combating misinformation. Gorfinkel's educational background includes a PhD in Media Studies from the Australian National University, where she explored cultural and political identities in Chinese media. Her work encompasses cultural research areas, including multilingualism in education and community engagement. Gorfinkel welcomes inquiries from prospective HDR candidates interested in public relations, media communication, and health-related projects aligned with her research.
