Dr. Lauren Hammond

Biography

Lauren Hammond is an Associate Professor in Geography Education at Reuben College, University of Oxford. She teaches on the PGCE Geography, MSc Learning Teaching, and supervises DPhil Education students. Lauren began her career as a teacher, notably serving as the head of the geography department in various schools in London and Singapore. Prior to her tenure at Oxford, she held a lectureship in Geography Education at the Institute of Education, University College London (IOE) from 2014 to 2022, and at Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh from 2022 to 2024. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, her work emphasizes the intersection of research and teaching in geography education. Lauren has played critical roles in teacher education, including leading programs for PGCE Secondary Geography and developing an undergraduate module in Geography Education at UCL. She is active in several professional organizations, contributing to networks that promote geography education and support teacher training. Her research focuses on the dynamics of geography and education, particularly concerning children’s geographies and citizenship education, with ongoing projects in both London and Glasgow. Lauren continues to foster collaboration among educators and contribute to discourse in the field of Geography Education.
