Biography

Lauren Fox MacMillan, Ph.D. earned her doctorate with an emphasis in clinical psychology and aging from the University of Southern California. After graduation, she worked at the Center for Aging Resources (Heritage Clinic), a community mental health agency for seniors based in Pasadena. In her role, she provided clinic and home-based assessment and psychotherapy, led support groups for caregivers of persons with early-stage memory disorders, supervised doctoral trainees in psychology, initiated a neuropsychological assessment clinic, and served as director of a social model adult day program for people with dementia and their families. In 2007, Dr. MacMillan was hired by the Long Beach VA Healthcare System, where she provided gero-competent diagnostic and functional assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, and interprofessional consultation to older veterans from various service eras. She played a key role in integrating mental and behavioral health services within an interdisciplinary primary specialty care team serving older veterans with complex comorbidities. Additionally, Dr. MacMillan has contributed to psychology internship and postdoctoral fellowship training programs at Long Beach VA and has established a pre-internship assessment clerkship program in collaboration with a local doctoral program. She is an active founding board member of the American Board of Geropsychology and has served on the board of the American Board of Professional Psychology. In 2016, Dr. MacMillan joined the Department of Family Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine, where she offers integrated clinical psychology services to primary care patients, especially focusing on older and chronically ill individuals.
