Dr. Lauren Ng

Biography

Lauren Ng is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine specializing in psychiatry. Her research focuses on understanding the mediators and moderators of psychological outcomes related to trauma exposure, particularly in low- and middle-income countries as well as low-resource settings in the United States. By leveraging her clinical expertise, she aims to increase access to effective and culturally appropriate mental health services that address disparities in mental health care for vulnerable populations worldwide. Dr. Ng's current projects include a principal investigator role for a K23 patient-oriented mentored career development award from the National Institute of Mental Health, assessing the feasibility and effectiveness of evidence-based interventions for posttraumatic stress disorder among patients with serious mental illness receiving care in Ethiopian primary clinics. Her clinical work involves providing evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapies to diverse, primarily low-income clients, including refugees and asylum seekers at the Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights. She completed her PhD at the University of Southern California and has undertaken NIMH-funded postdoctoral research fellowships focused on global mental health at renowned institutions, including Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Ng is committed to advancing mental health care and reducing treatment disparities in her communities through research and clinical practice.
