Biography

Lauren Rivera is the Peter G. Peterson Professor of Corporate Ethics and a Professor in Management & Organizations at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. She also holds a courtesy appointment in Sociology at the Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. Rivera's research focuses on how individuals define and evaluate merit, and the implications of these understandings for social inequalities. Her best-selling book, 'Pedigree: Elite Students Get Elite Jobs' published by Princeton University Press, examines recruitment practices at elite professional service firms. Rivera has been recognized among the world's top business school professors by Poets & Quants and Thinkers50. Her research has received numerous awards from the American Sociological Association, and has been featured in prestigious publications including The Atlantic, Financial Times, and Harvard Business Review. She earned her B.A. in Sociology and Psychology from Yale University and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University. Before entering academia, Rivera worked in various consulting roles and served on Governor Pritzker's Advisory Council on Education for Students with Disabilities in Illinois.
