Dr. Lauren Stern

Biography

Dr. Lauren Stern is a Clinical Associate Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Nephrology. She serves as the Medical Director of the Home Dialysis Program, focusing on providing innovative home dialysis therapies for patients with end-stage kidney disease. Dr. Stern's academic role includes directing the Integrated Renal Physiology and Pathophysiology course for medical students and mentoring fourth-year medical students applying for Internal Medicine residencies. Her clinical practice encompasses attending the renal consult service and the dialysis transplantation service, in addition to overseeing a general nephrology clinic. Dr. Stern completed her medical education with an M.D. from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and an M.P.H. from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, following a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Florida. She has previously held positions such as Associate Clerkship Director for the Internal Medicine core clerkship and has contributed to curriculum innovation at the Internal Medicine Residency. Dr. Stern is actively involved in research, addressing topics like home dialysis and determinants of hemodialysis AV fistula maturation through grants from respected organizations such as the NIH and the Social Science Research Council. She is a member of the Boston University Amyloidosis Center and has been recognized with several awards for her contributions to teaching and excellence in medical education.
