Biography

Dr. Lauren Surface is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences and Prosthodontics at the University of Michigan. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Neurobiology from the University of Washington and earned her Ph.D. in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she studied the role of chromatin in embryonic stem cell lineage commitment. Following her doctoral studies, she pursued postdoctoral research at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital, focusing on genome-wide association studies to understand the response of osteogenic cells to drugs and mineral ions. Dr. Surface is a recipient of the NIH/NIAMS K99/R00 Pathway Independence Grant and a UM Biological Sciences Scholar.
