Biography

Lauren Tynan is a research fellow at Macquarie University with a focus in Geography and Planning. She is a proud Pairrebenne Trawlwoolway woman from Tebrakunna Country in northeast Tasmania. Her research areas encompass human geography and Indigenous studies, where she develops original methodological approaches that contend with ethics, climate change, and land management issues. Tynan's work investigates Indigenous decolonising methodologies, emphasizing relationality with Country and Aboriginal cultural burning practices. She was awarded her PhD in February 2025 for her dissertation titled "Kin Country: Relational Research, Cultural Fire Indigenous Futurities." Her research has influenced policy and practice in academia and higher education, and she is dedicated to bridging disciplinary boundaries and advancing Indigenous-led methodologies while reshaping Indigenous knowledges within the integrated social and natural sciences. Currently, Tynan is completing a Nations Fellowship at the Australian Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education Success, which focuses on further developing the Kin Country Framework as a pedagogical tool for higher education teaching and learning.
