Dr. Laurence Ales

Biography

Laurence Ales is a Professor of Economics at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business. He is currently the Senior Associate Dean for Education, overseeing the educational portfolio of the school. Ales joined Carnegie Mellon University in 2008 after receiving his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota. Additionally, he holds a B.S. in Physics from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. His research focuses on designing tax policy and its labor implications in the context of technological change. Recent analyses by Professor Ales have concentrated on the tax implications of labor income for highly paid CEOs, taking into account factors such as location of work and marital status. He has also studied the types of technologies that generate patterns of task automation and their impact on employment. His work has been published in prestigious journals, including Econometrica, American Economic Review, and Journal of Economic Theory. At the Tepper School, he teaches various courses for the MBA program and Executive Education.
