Biography

Laurence de Looze is a professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Western Ontario, where he has been a member since 1994. He has previously served as a professor of French at Boston University and taught Comparative Literature at Harvard University. Professor de Looze teaches a wide range of courses across both large and small classes, focusing on Modern Languages within the French department. His research interests encompass a broad spectrum, including French, Spanish, and Icelandic culture and literature. Notably, he has received the Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2001, as well as the Faculty Scholar Award in 2009. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the School of Advanced Studies in Arts and Humanities (SASAH). Beyond his academic endeavors, Professor de Looze also engages in creative pursuits, publishing fiction and plays, and enjoys playing jazz piano.
