Biography

Laurence Grove, Director of the Stirling Maxwell Centre for the Study of Text/Image Cultures at the University of Glasgow, is a prominent figure in the field of text and image interaction. With extensive material holdings and resources at the Glasgow University Library Hunterian Museum Art Gallery, he leads research that explores the historical narratives formed through visual and textual elements. He serves as the President of the International Bande Dessinée Society and has held various editorial positions including general editor of Glasgow Emblem Studies and co-editor of European Comic Art. His research spans the evolution of the comic book as a significant form of media. Grove has organized ten international conferences and authored or co-authored eleven books, alongside numerous chapters and articles, focusing on emblem books and their intersections with modern comic culture. His recent projects include the 'Comic Invention' exhibition and the creation of the National Comics Centre in Scotland, aimed at showcasing and preserving comic culture. In addition to lecturing worldwide and engaging in media consultations, he remains dedicated to innovative teaching practices at the University of Glasgow, believing that research and teaching mutually inform each other.
