Dr. Laurence Wainwright

Biography

Laurence Wainwright is a Departmental Lecturer and Course Director of the MSc in Sustainability, Enterprise and Environment at the University of Oxford's Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. With over 15 years of lecturing experience across universities in Australia, Sweden, the United States, and the United Kingdom, he is dedicated to fostering holistic student development and promoting intellectual curiosity. He has received various awards for teaching excellence, including the University of Oxford Teaching Excellence Award in 2024 and the University of Oxford Excellence Award in 2022. His research interests are multidisciplinary, primarily focusing on corporate sustainability, mental health, and the health impacts of climate change. In addition to his role at the Smith School, Laurence serves as a Research Fellow at Green Templeton College and a facilitator in the Department of Psychiatry. He has a proven track record of media engagement, providing expert insights on sustainability issues across numerous platforms, including BBC World News and CNN. Laurence completed his doctoral studies in Business Administration at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, with a thesis examining organizational legitimacy in relation to sustainability practices. His educational background includes a Master's in Sustainable Development from Uppsala University and various degrees from the University of Technology Sydney. Laurence is also committed to community engagement and has volunteered in the not-for-profit sector, assisting individuals facing homelessness and addiction issues.
