Biography

Laurent L. Couëtil is a Professor and Section Head of Large Animal Internal Medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Purdue University. He serves as the Director of Equine Research Programs and is also the Director of the Donald J. McCrosky Equine Sports Medicine Center. Couëtil has a strong research focus on early detection and treatment of respiratory diseases in athletic horses and is involved in equine exercise physiology, animal models of respiratory disease, pre-clinical trials, and translational research. He completed his DVM at the Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort, France in 1985, followed by a residency at Tufts University in 1995, and earned his PhD from the University of Liège, Belgium in 2006. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine since 1996 and has held leadership roles including President of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the area of Large Animal Internal Medicine. Couëtil is actively involved in research and professional education, contributing significantly to the field of veterinary medicine.
