Biography

Laurent Duda currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. His research focuses on the development of synchrotron radiation-based techniques for studying the electronic structure of various materials, particularly in the context of condensed matter physics, energy materials, and X-ray photon science. Currently, he applies resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) to investigate fundamental processes in lithium and sodium-ion batteries. Duda is also developing state-of-the-art operando RIXS tools that enable in situ sample handling for operando X-ray spectroscopy experiments. His research collaborations extend to battery material experts in Sweden and the United Kingdom, including Oxford and St. Andrews Universities. Duda’s contributions include significant publications that reveal critical insights into the role of oxygen in cathode material systems through high-resolution RIXS, beneficial for future battery development.
