Biography

Laurent Matthey has been a professor at the University of Geneva since 2014, where he is the director of the Department of Geography and Environment. He is responsible for the Urban Planning orientation of the joint master's program UNIGE-HES-SO in territorial development and co-director of the MAS UNIGE-EPFL in urbanism. His research is positioned at the intersection of ethnography and literary studies, focusing on the political issues involved in the storytelling of urban production, especially regarding sensitive registers and the attentional regimes employed in this context. Since September 2023, he has been a member of the CRESSON team at UMR AAU. Additionally, he serves on the board of EspaceSuisse and participates in the collegial management of the RAMAU network, which emphasizes the epistemology of knowledge and practices in urbanism. His ongoing research activities are categorized into two main configurations: planning discourses and narratives studies, and ethnography of urban projects. He is engaged in various projects, such as 'The Makers of the Neighborhood,' which addresses the intersection of urbanism and social action.
