Biography

Laurette Geldenhuys is a nephropathologist trained in South Africa with master's degrees in Anatomical Pathology and Medical Education. She served as the Division Head and Service Chief of Anatomical Pathology at QEII Health Sciences Centre from 2012 to 2022. Geldenhuys has been the Past President of the Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP-ACP) and a Royal College Continuing Professional Development Educator in Nova Scotia. She is a recipient of multiple awards, including the College of American Pathologists President's Honours and the CAP-ACP President's Award, highlighting her distinguished contributions to the field. Currently, she leads efforts in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Wellness within the Department of Pathology and chairs several Canadian Association initiatives related to nephropathology and planetary health. Geldenhuys is particularly interested in the intersection of healthcare and the environment, focusing on the health effects of the climate emergency. She frequently welcomes summer students and prospective graduate and postdoctoral candidates for various research projects.
