Dr. Laurie Craigen

Biography

Laurie Craigen is an Associate Professor at the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine at Boston University, specializing in Psychiatry with a focus on mental health counseling and behavioral medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the College of the Holy Cross and both an Ed.D. in School Psychology and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the College of William & Mary. With over a decade of experience in private practice, Dr. Craigen has a rich background in working with adolescents and young adults facing various mental health challenges, particularly self-injurious behavior, suicide, and trauma. Her research interests extend to the unique needs of military-connected children and families, demonstrating her commitment to addressing critical issues within this population. Besides her primary research, Dr. Craigen is dedicated to international learning experiences, having co-developed a service-learning program in San Jose, Costa Rica, and participated in educational initiatives in South Africa and Ireland. She has also developed online courses in human methods for family guidance, showcasing her multidisciplinary approach to education. As a Graduate Medical Sciences Educator Mentor at Boston University, she plays a significant role in guiding graduate students in their academic and professional development.
