Dr. Laurie Debettencourt

Biography

Laurie U. deBettencourt is a Professor Emeritus at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education. With over thirty-five years of experience, she has significantly contributed to the field of special education, overseeing master’s programs and certificates focused on this area for fifteen years. deBettencourt has authored numerous textbooks and articles that delve into instruction for students with disabilities. She served as the Editor of the TESE journal for ten years, further demonstrating her commitment to advancing educational scholarship. In 2018, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to the Special Education Institute at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary, where she studied Atypical Behaviour & Cognition. She returned in the fall of 2022 under a Fulbright Specialist opportunity, assisting faculty and graduate students with publishing efforts.
