Laurie Milner holds a PhD in Modern Contemporary Art History Theory from Northwestern University. Her research has been funded by SSHRC, the Government of France, Northwestern University, and Concordia University’s Part-Time Faculty Association at Bishop's University. Prior to joining Concordia, she held various academic positions including Associate Professor and Head of Critical Studies at the Emily Carr Institute (now University) of Art and Design, Acting Chair of the Art History Program at Bishop's University, and Director/Curator at the Glendon Gallery, York University. At Concordia, Laurie teaches seminars on contemporary art, theory and writing within the MFA Studio Arts Program, as well as modern and contemporary art history in the Art History Department and critical issues in the BFA Studio Arts Department. She is also involved in the Liberal Arts College, focusing on the history of art. In addition to her teaching, Laurie has an active writing practice centered on works by contemporary Canadian artists and runs Laurie Milner Editorial Services, which specializes in writing for the arts, humanities, and literature. She is an active contributor to curriculum development in higher education and has received accolades for her outstanding teaching at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.
