Biography

Dr. Lawrence Corey is a professor at the University of Washington in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology. He is a world-renowned virologist who has pioneered the development of antiviral therapies for human chronic viral infections. His work spans a wide variety of areas including diagnostic virology, antiviral therapy, and vaccine development in viral immunology. Dr. Corey has led the HSV research program continuously funded by the NIH since 1978 and serves as the President and Director Emeritus of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He is also the Principal Investigator for the NIH-supported HIV Vaccine Trials Network, an international collaboration focused on developing a globally effective HIV vaccine. Additionally, Dr. Corey enjoys tennis, skiing, and early morning exercise, and he is a devoted grandfather to four granddaughters.
