Biography

Lawrence Gillman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, where he practices as an acute care and trauma surgeon. He completed his medical degree and surgical residency at the University of Manitoba and later obtained a Master's degree in Medical Education from the University of Dundee. His training also includes fellowship training in critical care medicine and trauma surgery at the University of Calgary. His research interests focus on medical and surgical education, particularly through simulation, and he has developed various simulation models for ultrasound and crisis management. Dr. Gillman is the founder of the national Simulated Trauma Resuscitation Team Training (STARTT) course and serves as a director of the clinical learning simulation program at the University of Manitoba. He is also an editor of the textbook Trauma Team Dynamics. Alongside his academic endeavors, he is a proud parent of four energetic children.
