Dr. Hookey completed his medical school training at Memorial University of Newfoundland. After finishing his internal medicine and gastroenterology training at Queen’s University, he embarked on a one-year fellowship in clinical research in therapeutic endoscopy, traveling to Belgium and France. He returned to the faculty at Queen’s in 2005 and was promoted to associate professor. Dr. Hookey’s practice includes general gastroenterology with a focus on therapeutic endoscopy and pancreatic biliary disease. His research program investigates optimizing bowel preparation for colonoscopy, as well as quality assurance in endoscopy and education in colonoscopy. He has been awarded the clinician scientist award to support his research program. Dr. Hookey currently serves as the Chair of the Division and Medical Director of the Endoscopy Units at Kingston General and Hotel Dieu hospitals.
