Biography

Lawrence E. Larson received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, his Master of Engineering from Cornell University, and his PhD from UCLA. In 1996, he directed the development of high-frequency microelectronics at Hughes Research Laboratories and has a strong background in GaAs, InP, and Si/SiGe MEMS technologies. Larson joined the faculty at the University of California - San Diego, serving as the inaugural holder of the Communications Industry Chair and as the Director of the UCSD Center for Wireless Communications from 2001 to 2006. He became Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2007 to 2011 and moved to Brown University in 2011 as the Sorensen Family Dean of the School of Engineering until 2022. Larson also served as the Interim Provost at Brown during the first half of 2023. He has published over 300 papers, holds 40 patents, is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, and has graduated 31 PhD students. His research focuses on developing new semiconductor devices and circuit techniques to enable faster and more pervasive wireless communication devices.
