Dr. Lawrence Singer

Biography

Professor Emeritus Lawrence Singer specializes in organic photochemistry and photophysics, including research on surface interfacial chemical processes, micellar organized assemblies, and free radical chemistry. His work has been supported by funding from the National Science Foundation, Petroleum Fund, and Army Research Office, leading to 65 publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. He has received numerous accolades, including the USC Associates Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1989, the Faculty Teaching Award from USC Chemistry Alumni in 1985-1986, and he was recognized as USC Mortar Board Professor of the Month for the same period. He was also honored with a Sloan Research Fellowship and served as an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow from 1970 to 1972. Throughout his career, Professor Singer has held various administrative positions, including Faculty Advisor and Director of the USC Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program and Associate Chair of Chemistry from 1983 to 2005. He has been actively involved in college governance and student recruitment initiatives, contributing to the academic community significantly during his tenure.
