Dr. Lawton Burns

Biography

Lawton R. Burns is the James Joo-Kim Professor and an expert in Health Care Management at the Wharton School. He has a PhD and has been recognized for his extensive research in the fields of hospital-physician relationships and integrated health care systems. Lawton teaches courses on various health care topics including strategic management and organizational change, providing executive education that helps leaders navigate the complex health care environment. His past roles include serving on the Governing Board of the Institute of Medicine and contributing to the editorial board of Health Services Research. He has published numerous works, including analyses of health care policy and strategic investments in the health care industry. Lawton has received the Edwin L. Crosby Memorial Fellowship and has conducted influential research on issues such as the financial crisis of the Allegheny Health Education & Research Foundation. His books, including 'Health Care Value Chain' and 'Business Healthcare Innovation', delve into the challenges and innovations in the global health care landscape.
