Biography

Le Bao is a Professor of Statistics at Penn State University, where he also serves as the Associate Department Head. He obtained his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2011, and holds an M.S. in Statistics from Dalhousie University, Canada (2005), and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Peking University (2004). His research is primarily motivated by the application of statistical methodologies to solve significant real-world problems. He focuses on various areas including public health, social sciences, HIV epidemics, COVID-19, demographic research, the implications for marginalized populations, and the effects of air pollution. Bao is actively involved as a technical advisor for the UNAIDS Reference Group and leads projects at the Diagnostics Modeling Consortium.
