Biography

Dr. Cong's group develops technology for large-scale genome editing, gene insertion, and gene and cell therapy, integrating advanced metagenomics, computational biology, and high-throughput engineering. In parallel, the group leverages gene-editing tools for single-cell functional screening, probing molecular mechanisms related to innate immunity, cancer, and neuro-immune diseases. Dr. Cong's team incorporates AI and machine learning to enhance genome technologies, focusing on the design and evolution of gene-editing proteins and RNAs silico, which significantly enhances the efficiency and capabilities of therapeutic molecules. His work has been instrumental in the development of CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing tools for in vivo gene therapy. Furthermore, the group has invented tools for cleavage-free large gene insertion using novel recombination proteins (SSAP editor) and developed machine-learning optimized single-cell methods (DAISY) for investigating cancer immune diseases. Dr. Cong has received numerous prestigious awards, including the NHGRI Genomic Innovator Award and recognition as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Web of Science.
